Project Overview: Michelle McDowell Smith, a fine artist whose work blends surreal elements with a storybook aesthetic, approached us to create a logo reflecting her unique artistic style. Her art often explores themes of hope, aspiration, and the emotions that accompany these journeys, with woodland animals, birds, and trees serving as metaphors. In addition to fine art, Michelle is expanding into children’s books and potentially home décor.
Logo Design Goals: The goal was to capture the essence of her work:
- Reflect the storybook and surreal nature of her art.
- Convey emotional depth with an overall tone of hope and aspiration.
- Include elements like woodland creatures, birds, and trees central to her themes.
- Ensure versatility for both her fine art business and children’s book line.
Design Process: We analyzed Michelle’s existing body of work, especially her children’s books, to pinpoint recurring visual motifs that best represented her artistic themes. The designs used soft pastel accents and neutral tones, staying true to the mood of her work.
The Outcome: Michelle loved both designs and decided to use one as her primary logo for her fine art business and the other for her children’s book division. These logos provided her with a cohesive, flexible brand identity that will grow as her business expands.
Client Feedback: Michelle appreciated the thoughtful balance between subtlety and symbolism, feeling that the logos captured her vision without being too literal. She’s excited to see how they will evolve alongside her growing brand.
